Bhutan Central-East Crossing Traverse to Assam, India

Introduction

This Bhutan trip takes you to the most remarkable areas of the traditional Himalayan kingdom between Tibet and India: from Central Bhutan you cross the Himalayan country, and eventually leave Bhutan by land towards the Indian state of Assam.

Discover this truly unique country with its rich Tibetan Buddhist cultural heritage, and the spectacular mountain scenery. You feel transported into another world and into another age, because laws were adopted already early on here, to protect and promote the unique architecture. For this reason, Bhutan has remained spared to this day from aesthetically unsightly buildings, as they appear nowadays elsewhere in Asia.

You come into contact with weavers, market women, farmers, monks and nuns. In Bumthang, the "valley of women" you get thorough and unique insights into the daily life, you visit unique monastery fortresses of Bhutan, walk through authentic landscapes, and observe original, simple farming of livestock and soil. All this in a sparsely populated, tradition and environmentally- conscious country, which is extending from vast, pristine forests, which are rich in orchids, magnolias and rhododendrons, to the foothills of the snow- covered Himalayan giants in the north.
