Introduction

Surrounded by the mightiest mountain ranges of the world in the northern province of India, and thus difficult to access, counts Ladakh to the highest inhabited regions of the world, with sparsely populated valleys on 3500 m. An unique, highly civilized culture has developed here, which is greatly influenced by the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. Like oases seem Ladakh's quaint mountain villages, which are bordered by a mosaic of green fields, in the vast, spectacular and barren mountain desert of the high plateau. On hilltops in this similarly lunar, solitary and magnificent landscape stand castle-like monastery settlements, and sky blue lakes in contrast with the snow-white peaks, vast plains, high mountain passes and deep canyons.

Ladakh features probably with the exception of the Spiti region in Himachal Pradesh, without doubt the most spectacular landscapes of the Indian subcontinent. In addition one has been able to maintain the Tibetan cultural heritage in Ladakh until today. One can find, in contrast to Tibet, many well-preserved and actively used monasteries. The deep roots in Tibetan Buddhism characterize the spirit of the amiable Ladakhi, and expresse themselves in the close connection with nature. Ladakh you can experience most impressively during a trekking. On this trip we have integrated two simpler trekkings, with all overnights in fixed accommodations, as well as the visit of the main attractions of Ladakh.
